senior staff to implement change.
Typical scenarios are:
- Businesses that have suffered a severe change in their fortunes
seldom have in-house staff with the experience to cope, while
the experience is being gained valuable time is lost - often
with considerable impact on the business and a consequent loss
of confidence by investors and finance providers.
- Few businesses that make an acquisition have the spare staff
and resources to ‘get inside’ the acquisition and
make the changes necessary for success. The normal course of
seconding staff from the acquiring business can easily result
in two weakened organizations.
- Managements defend past actions and often lack the experience
and knowledge to cope with change and the introduction of new
technology, consequently they do not embrace change and need
external leadership and guidance during the change process.
- Management may be effective at managing the existing business
but lack the skills or experience to develop the business. For
